Toasted Muesli with Cherries & Coconut has it all!
Toasted Muesli with Cherries & Coconut checks all the boxes when it comes to an easy summer weekday breakfast. Not only is it a breeze to make, it’s also versatile, so delicious and you can make it ahead of time. It will last in the pantry for days, weeks and even months! It’s nutty, toasty, slightly sweet, chewy and full of texture. Not to mention it’s packed with nutrient dense ingredients for a satisfying, filling, and nourishing meal or snack.
What is Muesli?
Muesli (pronounced “mews-lee”) is traditionally a cold breakfast cereal made of uncooked oats, other grains, nuts, seeds, dried fruits and spices. The mix is generally combined with milk, yogurt, kefir, fruit juices or eaten on it’s own.
Muesli and granola are basically very similar, just prepared a little differently. The ingredients are mostly the same. However, granola calls for an oil/fat and sugar/sweetener and is always baked. This is where the wonderful crunchy texture comes from. Both muesli and granola are nutrient packed and tasty options for quick, easy to serve breakfasts.
A lot of recipes do not toast the muesli and include a mix of plain raw oats, nuts and seeds. But if you’re looking for that next level muesli, toasting adds a special extra little crunch and depth of flavor. I almost never skip this step because it truly changes the texture game.
How to Enjoy Muesli with Cherries & Coconut
There are many ways to enjoy muesli. The versatility makes it great to have on hand for changing up the breakfast routine. My personal fav way to enjoy muesli is to portion it out into individual containers, stir in greek yogurt or kefir with some fruit and a drizzle of honey and then refrigerate. That way breakfast is ready for me to just grab and go in the morning. It’s so refreshing in the summer!
- Enjoy Like a Cereal: Pour milk over a bowl of muesli with some fruit for a simple and delicious breakfast.
- Make a Porridge: Cook it like an oatmeal with milk or water for a warm and softened version of muesli.
- Yogurt Parfaits: Make a layered yogurt parfait or just stir into yogurt with some fresh or frozen fruit.
- “Overnight Oats Style”: Cover a portion of muesli with milk and refrigerate overnight. The oats will soak up the liquid for a chilled and refreshing breakfast. Add in some chia seeds for a creamier version.
- Use it as a Topping: Top smoothies, nut butter toasts, or baked fruit.
- Baked goods: Fold it into baked goods or granola bars or “energy bites.”
