Chili Spiced Mango Salsa is quick, easy to throw together and requires only a few ingredients. Serve with tortilla chips for a sweet, spicy, and flavorful appetizer or spoon it over seafood, chicken, tacos or quesadillas for a burst of fresh flavor!
Salsa is so much more than tomatoes and dipping chips. There’s endless adaptations of salsa and one way I love to liven up food is with a fruit salsa. For one, fruit salsas are gorgeous to look at and add a ton of vibrant color and brightness to the table. They also bring amazing fresh and sweet flavor to not only tortilla chips, but also to numerous savory dishes as well. While mango is one of the more popular fruits to use, melon, blueberries, cherries, strawberries, peach, and pineapple are all perfect for making a great salsa appetizer, snack or dish accompaniment. Mango is one of my favs and it was a no brainer that I had to share this Chili Spiced Mango Salsa recipe. It’s flexible, so easy and so freakin good!
Chili Spiced Mango Salsa Ingredients
- Fresh Mango: Make sure to use ripe mangos. Just like peaches and avocados, mangos soften as then ripen, so you don’t want a mango that’s overly ripe and mushy or a mango that’s under-ripe and rock solid. A ripe mango has a firm skin and gives just slightly when gently pressed. You can also sometimes smell a sweet fruity aroma at their stem. Despite some belief, color is not an indicator of ripeness. So always judge by feel. Check out my Instagram saved stories on how to cut a mango!
- Red Onion: You can use any color of onion you prefer. I like a red onion for it’s pop of contrasting color and slightly more mild onion taste.
- Serrano Peppers: This adds some heat to the sweet! One pepper is good for a more mild salsa. But if you like a little fire, add two.
- Lime Juice: Make sure to use fresh limes. It brightens and livens up the mango unlike bottled lime juice is able to do.
- Cilantro: What is salsa without herby cilantro?
- Chili Powder: I like a smoky ancho chili powder, but you can absolutely use regular chili powder if you prefer.
- Cumin: Cumin adds a little warmth and earthiness to the salsa.
- Salt: Salt enhances all the flavors and brings out the sweetness in the mango.
- Optional: Change it up and add in diced avocado, jicama, bell pepper or cucumber.
